Why install king post retaining walls?

Our customers regularly ask us about the benefits of installing king post walls and how they should be installed, specifically on how to get the king post wall construction sequence right.

King post walls are quick to install and are a cost-effective solution for creating retaining walls, which is probably why they’re so popular.

Here at JP Concrete, we supply, design and manufacture a range of durable prestressed concrete panels which are often used by our customers to create king post walls of all shapes and sizes.

What are king post walls used for?

King post walls can be used for a variety of purposes but are typically used by customers wanting to install flood-defence walls or needing to create embankment retention.

However, because they can be constructed in any size and to any specification, using prestressed concrete panels to create king post walls is a flexible choice for a wide range of building projects.

What are the advantages of using king post retaining walls?

There are many benefits to installing king post retaining walls. The most significant being that they are relatively affordable when compared to other building options. They are easy to construct and come in a range of sizes, offering additional flexibility.

How are king post walls constructed?

When it comes to the king post retaining wall construction sequence, construction is straightforward and simple. The typical king post wall construction sequence starts with a concrete pile being formed and steel posts being inserted into the concrete.

The posts are then thoroughly checked for verticality, alignment and level and the precast concrete panels are then installed once the concrete has hardened.

Our prestressed concrete panels can be easily clipped to the front of the posts or can be slotted in between. Each panel comes with a tongue and groove fitting which ensures easy alignment and watertight seals.

What size do prestressed concrete panels come in?

Because there are so many purposes for king post walls, we understand that no two building projects are the same. So we have created a flexible service for our customers. Our prestressed concrete panels come in a variety of thicknesses so you can choose the most appropriate size for your building project.

Our panels start at 100mm and go up to 180mm in thickness. However, we can also supply and design thicker panels up to 280mm if required – just ask. The panels also come in a variety of height options: 1m, 1.2m and 1.5m.

What’s more, should the panels not be large enough in terms of height, you can place the panels safely and securely on top of each other until you have reached the overall desired height for your retaining wall.

Can the king post retaining wall be removed?

In addition to being a long-lasting building solution for permanent and fixed structures, king post retaining walls are also used by some of our customers as a temporary fix because they can be easily removed when they’re no longer needed.

Our prestressed concrete panels offer an extremely robust and durable finish for both permanent and temporary structures, so they’re always extremely popular with JP Concrete customers.

Can the king post walls be installed by a skilled team?

In addition to designing, supplying and manufacturing concrete panels, we also offer a full installation service. Some of our customers prefer not to install the concrete panels themselves and choose to use our experienced team to carry out the construction instead.

Our installation team is skilled and experienced in installing a wide range of concrete products and would be happy to manage the installation if you wish.
