Vertical Cantilever Retaining Wall

Prestressed panels installed vertically for durable, flush walling

Why choose vertical cantilever walls?

Cantilever systems provide strength and durability while eliminating the need for exposed steelwork.

  • No exposed steelpanels are cast directly into the footing, so there’s nothing above ground to corrode or fail in a fire.
  • Strong and permanent once the footing is poured, the wall becomes a monolithic structure with no need for extra fixings.
  • Flush wall faceprovides a smooth, continuous surface that’s easy to clean and maintain, especially in silage and slurry applications.
  • Watertight jointstongue and groove edges can be sealed to create water-tight walls for storing liquids.
  • High performancewith surcharge capacity up to 20 kN/m², fire resistance up to 120 minutes, and a design life of up to 100 years, vertical cantilevers are engineered for demanding applications.
  • Flexible heightspanels can be designed to achieve wall heights from 1.5m up to 6m above finished floor level.

Retaining walls designed for liquid storage and fire protection

When you need retaining walls that are strong, permanent, and free of exposed steelwork, vertical cantilever walls are the ideal solution. Using prestressed panels installed vertically into a reinforced concrete footing, they provide a seamless, continuous wall face suitable for storing liquids or protecting against fire and blast.

Panels are placed into cradles, temporarily propped, and anchored into the footing reinforcement. Once the concrete is poured and cured, the props are removed, and the wall becomes a permanent cantilever system. No additional support is needed, making this system perfect where steelwork might be vulnerable from fire or corrosive liquids.

Product Features & Specifications of Vertical Cantilever Retaining Walls

Vertical cantilever walls use prestressed panels cast into reinforced footings to create durable, flush wall faces. Here’s what makes them ideal for liquid storage and fire protection.

Wall heights: Typically 1.5m to 6.0m above finished floor level

Wall heights can be tailored to your project by selecting the appropriate panel length.

Panel thickness: 100mm, 150mm, 180mm, 280mm

Choose the right thickness to match material densities and surcharge requirements. Thicker panels are best for heavy-duty applications such as slurry or fire walls.

Material density: Up to 18 kN/m³

Suitable for storing silage, slurry, and other high-density agricultural materials.

Surcharge capacity: Up to 20 kN/m²

Panels are designed to handle surcharges up to 20 kN/m², depending on thickness and foundation design, making them suitable for dense materials and demanding applications.

Wall Sizes, Dimensions & Product Range

Vertical cantilever panels are manufactured in four standard thicknesses – 100, 150, 180 and 280mm – and can be supplied in lengths to achieve wall heights from 1.5m to 6.0m above finished floor level.

Typical Applications

Vertical cantilever walls are a popular choice for agricultural and industrial projects where durability and liquid resistance are essential. They’re widely used for silage clamps, slurry stores, and fire and blast walls.

Fire & Blast Walls

“We’ve been in the construction industry for over 20 years, and their service has been second to none. The prices are very competitive, but more importantly, the product is of a high standard, and the customer service is outstanding. Deliveries are always on time and well organised, and problems, which are very rare, are always resolved promptly.”

Horizontal panels slot between steel columns, while vertical cantilever panels are cast directly into a reinforced footing. This creates a continuous wall face with no exposed steelwork.
No. Once the concrete footing is poured and cured, the wall becomes a permanent, self-supporting system. Temporary props are only needed during installation.
Yes. Tongue-and-groove joints can be sealed to create watertight walls, making them suitable for slurry stores and silage clamps.
Walls can be designed to achieve heights from 1.5m to 6.0m above finished floor level, depending on loadings and surcharge.
Up to 20 kN/m², depending on panel thickness and foundation design.
Cast-in walls use self-supporting L-shaped units, while cantilever systems use prestressed panels set into a footing. Both provide permanent retaining capacity, but cantilevers create a flush wall face with no protruding base.
Prices vary by size and quantity, but as a guide, a full load of 150mm thick panels delivered within a 100-mile radius of Nottingham is approximately £80/m² +VAT. For an accurate quote, just get in touch.
Panels are made to order, with typical lead times of 2–4 weeks. Delivery is available UK-wide from our Nottingham base.
