Retaining walls designed for projects that can’t afford delays

Delays cost money. If you’ve ever waited days for in-situ pours to cure or wrestled with shuttering that slows the whole site down, you’ll know how quickly a programme can slip.

Bolt-down retaining walls take those problems away. Cast in a factory for consistency, delivered from our Nottingham site, and anchored with resin dowels – they’re designed to save you time and give you certainty.

Most of the time, you can load the wall the same day it’s installed. That’s why contractors, farmers, and engineers across the UK choose bolt-downs when speed matters.

Product Features & Specifications of Bolt-Down Retaining Walls

Bolt-downs are engineered for strength, precision, and ease of use. Here’s what sets them apart:

Heights: 1m to 5m

Ten standard heights cover most commercial, industrial, and agricultural applications. You only buy the wall you need, keeping material use efficient and costs under control.

Corner units: 90° and 45° available

Corners are available across the range, so you can form storage bays or changes in direction without expensive custom moulds. This flexibility means fewer delays and smoother layouts on site.

Material density: Up to 18 kN/m³

Suitable for a wide range of retained materials, from soils and crops to construction waste. This density covers most real-world applications.

Surcharge capacity: Up to 20 kN/m²

Strong enough to retain bulk materials and take vehicle loads. Whether it’s aggregates, silage, or heavy industrial storage, bolt-downs are built to handle it.

Concrete strength: C50 mix

High-grade concrete improves durability and reduces long-term maintenance. It’s the assurance that your wall won’t let you down. Factory-controlled quality ensures consistency on every project.

Connection: Resin anchor system

Quick, secure fixing method using Sika AnchorFix resin and steel bars supplied with your order. Installation is simple and avoids the need for complicated on-site works.

Design life: 50 years

Built for long-term use. Once installed correctly, bolt-downs provide decades of reliable performance, reducing lifecycle costs.

Reinforcement cover: 30mm minimum

Protects the steel reinforcement from corrosion, extending service life and ensuring compliance with UK/EU standards.

Fire resistance: 30 minutes

Provides added resilience on commercial and industrial projects where fire performance is a factor.

Edge detail: Chamfered edges

Chamfered edges create a cleaner look and help minimise visible chipping during handling and installation. They also make wall alignment easier, providing a smarter finish for storage bays, landscaping schemes, and public-facing projects — with less need for remedial work later.

Finish: Smooth mould finish

A professional look that’s easy to keep clean. With both faces finished, the wall works just as well in public-facing environments.

Foundation type: Reinforced concrete

Bolt-downs are secured into an RC foundation with resin dowels, creating the stability needed to resist sliding and overturning forces. For projects across the UK, this foundation method delivers consistent results.

Wall Sizes, Dimensions & Product Range

Our precast bolt-down retaining walls are available in ten standard heights, from 1.0m to 5.0m. Each unit has a fixed 1.0m width and a smooth mould finish, giving you clean visual lines and predictable layouts.

Because you can choose the exact height you need, there’s no overbuilding, no wasted concrete, and no hidden cost. The consistent sizing makes it simple to calculate the wall length and plan your foundations accurately.

All standard heights are also available with 90° corner units, so you can build storage bays or internal angles without bespoke detailing. Units are reinforced for surcharge capacities up to 20 kN/m², making them suitable for everything from agricultural clamps to heavy-duty recycling yards.

Typical Applications

Bolt-down walls are a practical choice across many sectors. They’re commonly used to form bulk storage bays for aggregates, silage, grain, and fertiliser, providing strength and reliability where it matters. As earth retaining walls, they offer a quick-build solution for cuttings, boundaries, and landscaping projects. And in waste and recycling yards, they stand up to constant loading and vehicle impacts, giving you a durable wall that keeps working day after day.

Earth Retaining Walls

Questions We Get All The Time

Here’s what contractors, engineers, and site teams typically want to know, and if we’ve missed yours, give us a call on 0115 895 1120 or email the team at [email protected]

Yes. They must be anchored into a reinforced concrete slab to provide the stability needed against sliding and overturning.

Prices vary by size and quantity, but as a guide, a full load of units delivered within a 100-mile radius of Nottingham is approximately £200/m² +VAT. For an accurate quote, just get in touch.

Aggregates, soils, crops, silage, and most bulk materials up to 18 kN/m³ density. For higher-density loads, we may suggest another wall system.

We usually deliver units using articulated flat-bed lorries straight from our Nottingham factory. If your site has limited access, we can also arrange for smaller vehicles to deliver the units.

We’ll confirm the vehicle type and delivery schedule with you before dispatch to avoid any surprises on the day.

Both systems utilise a similar precast wall profile, but the method of fixing them differs.

    • Bolt-down walls are fixed to a reinforced foundation and secured with resin-fixed dowels.
    • Cast-in walls are embedded into a wet concrete slab, forming a continuous structural connection.

Bolt-down walls are easier to move later, while cast-in walls are more suitable for situations requiring a continuous floor slab without a protruding toe.

Yes. They’re manufactured according to UK exposure class standards and are suitable for outdoor environments, agricultural settings, and industrial yards.

For particularly harsh environments, such as silage clamps or chemical bunds, we might recommend additional protective measures like joint sealing systems or wall coatings to extend the service life.

Standard sizes are often available from stock. Larger orders typically take 2–4 weeks, but we’ll confirm lead times at quotation.

Very little. The smooth finish reduces dirt build-up, and if a unit is chipped, it can usually be patched with repair mortar.

A telehandler or 360 excavator is usually sufficient. All lifting loops, shackles, and fixings are supplied with your order.

Every precast wall system has its place. Here’s how bolt-downs compare:
