Concrete panels and retaining wall units can be installed around liquid storage tanks to provide a backup system in the event that the primary structure suffers any malfunctions.
Once constructed the precast concrete bund walls are able cope with the necessary loads imposed by liquids and due to the high strength of the concrete they are capable of dealing with aggressive materials and also feature a good fire rating.

Concrete panels can be used in conjunction with a steel frame. The panels are clipped to the internal face of the steels to ensure the steels are protected from the salt. Panels can be made to measure up to a length of 6096mm (depending on loadings).
The other option is using vertical cantilever panels which do not require steels and are instead embedded into a concrete foundation and tied into the floor slab. The advantage is that there are no steels required, however more groundworks are required.
The cantilever panels are installed by digging a foundation trench and setting out of steel cradles, which support the bottom of the panels ready for levelling. Once the panels are positioned and supported with props, the panels are then tied into the reinforcement for the foundation slab before the concrete is poured to secure the panels. A concrete floor slab can then be poured providing a neat floor to wall joint.
Bund walling can be constructed using the L-shape retaining wall unit’s which are manufactured off-site and delivered to site for fast installation and construction. The Cast-In units are generally best suited to this application as the reinforement is protected and also there are less joints visible making it more water tight.
The units are designed for retaining on one or both faces, so they can be backloaded on the outside of the bund for added protection.
