Bolt-Down Retaining Walls for Keepmoat Homes Development
Creating secure retaining ramps with a flexible precast solution
Meeting site challenges with a versatile retaining wall system
For a new housing development in Leicester, C3 Construction needed to create inclined ramps on both sides of a new access road near the River Soar. The solution had to be quick to install, adaptable to the site layout, and capable of integrating with copings, handrails, and aesthetic touches.
We supplied and installed over 100 metres of bolt-down retaining walls, providing a sturdy structure that combined strength with flexibility and could be completed in just three site visits.
Project Overview

- Location – Leicester
- Sector – Residential Development
- Services Provided – Structural design, groundworks, precast installation
- Project – Housing development retaining ramps
- Products Supplied – Bolt-down retaining walls
- Installation Duration – 3 weeks (across three visits)
Project Background
The site layout required sloped retaining structures to create safe ramps near a riverbank. Traditional in-situ methods would have been time-consuming and disruptive. Precast offered a faster, cleaner solution with fewer risks on site and a consistent finish from the factory.
The bolt-down retaining wall system was selected for its flexibility in accommodating different heights and its ability to connect seamlessly with other elements, including drainage, sealing, and custom architectural finishes.
Our Solution
Why Bolt-Down Retaining Walls
Bolt-down units were the best choice for this project because they could be fixed directly to reinforced concrete foundations and adjusted to match the varying heights needed along the ramps. Their modular design allowed the team to work in phases, with installation carried out safely and efficiently using standard lifting equipment.
Key benefits for this project included:
Quick installation of 109m of walling, ranging from 1.5m to 3.75m in height.
Reliable performance along a sloping road alignment
Integration with bitumen sealing for watertight joints
Bespoke copings and handrail fixings to meet safety and design requirements
- Decorative brick facing was applied to maintain the development’s architectural style
- Installation was completed in three visits, ensuring minimal disruption on a busy residential construction site
The Results
The completed ramps provided Keepmoat Homes with a safe, durable retaining solution that combined function with finish. The bolt-down walls proved flexible not only to challenging site levels but also to additional requirements such as watertight joints, copings, handrails, and aesthetic detailing.
By using precast, C3 Construction benefited from a faster programme, predictable costs, and a structure that was ready to use immediately.
