Precast Retaining Walls

Our precast concrete retaining walls come in two guises; a bolt down or cast-in version.

Bolt down retaining wall units are supplied with 4 or 5 precast holes in the base. The units are designed to be bolted to a flat, secure foundation, normally 200mm to 300mm thick. The units are placed into position, shimmed and levelled. Once in place holes are drilled down into the concrete base to the required depth. The holes are then filled with a resin and the steel rods are then placed into the holes - care should be taken to ensure that sufficient resin has been used. These need to be left for 24 hours and then the nut and washer can be placed on the top of the rod and tightened.

Cast in precast retaining walls are supplied with reinforcing bar protruding from the toe of the unit. They require a level and flat foundation. The units are placed into position, shimmed and levelled. A concrete floor can now be poured over the toe of the units - ensuring that the reinforcing bars are all tied into the new concrete slab. This type of construction has two major benefits; there is no toe left so the ground around the unit will be totally flat, and it provides a stronger result than just bolting down.
