Grain walls can be constructed in a number of ways but in recent years concrete panels have proved more and more popular. They have some key advantages over block work; the most notable being the speed and ease of construction. Panels will often be used in standard fifteen and twenty foot lengths. The standard method of construction involves fitting the panels to the front of RSJs and clamping the panel to the steel using cleats. The grain walling is then sealed up to give a suitable finish.

The height of the walls will be determined by a number of factors. The shorter the span between the steels, the higher the grain can be stored. If the grain is inclined there will be considerably more pressure placed on the panels relative to grain that is level filled. The thickness of the panel will also determine how high the walling can go. The standard thickness for grain panels is 150mm, however, for more extreme jobs where the grain walling needs to go higher, a 180mm panel can be used.
