  • Quick To Install – Save time by installing panels within steel frame of grain barn.
  • Cost Effective – Eliminate specialist construction machinery and labour to save you money.
  • Increase Grain Lifespan – Ensure perfect conditions with a purpose built store.

As an arable farmer one of your main requirements for an agricultural building will be to ensure you have adequate storage capacity for your crops after harvest.

Using our prestressed panels offers you a versatile and reliable solution to grain storage. The prestressed panels offer strength capable of withstanding the material weight of the grain itself and additional surcharges such as the angle of repose for a heaped fill, or the additional forces placed on the wall by grain stirrers.

We have a number of products ideal for creating grain walling, see details below. If you have any queries give us a call on 01273 646 450, we are happy to offer advice about which product is right for your needs.

Horizontal Pre-stressed Panels

If the steel frame of the grain barn is capable of taking the loads, then the use of our horizontal pre-stressed panels is a fast and cost effective solution. The panels come in three standard heights: 1m, 1.2m and 1.5m, these can be used in any configuration to achieve the required grain walling height.

The lengths of panels can be up to around 6.5m, although the final length and thickness of the panels will be determined by the retained height of the grain and will also need to factor in any additional surcharges.

The most common thicknesses of panels are 150mm and 180mm, these are capable of retaining a good level of grain. In extreme cases where the walling exceeds the standard heights, a 200mm or even 280mm panel can be manufactured. Consideration should be given to cost of panel thickness and wall height required, as it may be more cost effective to increase the size of the building and reduce the retained height.

“From design stage through to supply and completion the team at JP Concrete were extremely helpful and we cannot praise them highly enough. Delivery was on time, exactly when they said it would be. Installation was incredibly straightforward and efficient. We now have a quality storage facility for our wood chip that was put together quickly and with minimum fuss.”

Precast walls for dividing crops

In many farms there will be more than one type of crop harvested and so these crops will need to be kept seperate in the building. There are several precast solutions for creating storage bays including the freestanding retaining wall pictured above; these are ideal if you require flexible storage in your shed. You could also use the concrete lego blocks to create a freestanding dividing wall, which are fast to install and don’t require any fixing to the ground. Other options include installing steels through the building and using double loading pre-stressed panels, however digging out the floor and casting steels into it is not an ideal solution in an existing building. Instead you could use our bolt-down retaining wall units, which are simply resin anchored to an existing floor using steel rods and resin. Generally the maximum height for these dividing walls is around 3.5m and care should be taken if using freestanding dividing walls and the grain is heaped due to the increased loadings.

Standard Panel sizes for grain stores

Below a guide for the general panel thickness and lengths for level fill and inclined fill grain using 150mm and 180mm thick panels. Please note this information is for a guide only, as it does not take into consideration additional loads from grain stirrers etc.
